Area of a circle functional reasoning activityThis activity is for students to get some practice with functional reasoning. In an introductory acoustics class we look at the relationships between frequency of a spring-mass system and the spring constant and mass. Students struggle with what happens to the frequency as the spring constant or mass is changed. This activity provides a way to scaffold prior knowledge which can be used to make the connection to the spring-mass system.High School, Undergraduate (Freshman/Sophomore)Area_of_circles_activity_for_PHYS_110 (2).pdf
Three tones - same pitch, different timbreThis is a recording of three different musical instruments playing the same pitch at the same amplitude and for the same duration. The recording can be used to discuss timbre and spectrum.Middle School / Junior High, High School, Undergraduate (Freshman/Sophomore)3TONES.wav
PhET Simulation - Wave interferenceExcellent simulation of wave interference from the PhET project.Middle School / Junior High, High School, Undergraduate (Freshman/Sophomore)https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/wave-interference
PhET simulation - Wave on a stringA simulation from the PhET project of waves on a string. Includes configurable boundary conditions. Also good introduction to the concept of resonance.Middle School / Junior High, High School, Undergraduate (Freshman/Sophomore)https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/wave-on-a-string
